Rules for profiles
Purplemoon tries to be a peaceful, enjoyable and trustworthy place where you can find new friends and keep in touch with existing friends. The following rules and regulations form the foundation for that idea.
The following list details the most common reasons why profiles are reprimanded or deleted and are based on our code of conduct.
-
Harassment/Hassling
-
Sexual requests
Looking for sexual contacts or asking for sexual details is perceived as harassment by many users, because personal topics are addressed which usually require a certain amount of mutual trust. If a user does not clearly indicate to be open for such a conversation it is viewed as harassment. -
Personal questions
To hassle users with personal questions (e.g. about residence, job or friends) while not displaying an adequate level of empathy or tactfulness is often perceived as unwelcome and threatening. -
Incessant inquiries about a date
To hassle a user about a personal encounter, always asking about it again and to try to exert pressure on the user is unwelcomed behavior. Also to contact a person again and again after it was made clear that no contact is desired. -
Money offers or presents
Unexpected money offers or presents (or other seemly generous offers/invitations) are not allowed as long as the users do not know each other well, because usually something is expected in return (at least indirectly or seemingly) whereby a user feels pressured or hassled. -
What are the limits?
We especially presume harassment or hassling if a user repeats his behavior, follows a certain pattern, hassles multiple users and obviously does not respect the privacy of the users.Of course there are many grey areas, some remarks are maybe meant as a joke or there are misunderstandings between the users - we especially try to stop the harassments which are clearly unwanted and maybe even have dubious or sinister intentions. -
Special cases
Incidents in which the distress or inexperience of a user is exploited are viewed as especially grave, e.g. when an adult user hassles much younger or even underage users. Also if the profile of a user indicates that only certain age groups or groups of people are sought after and still the user is hassled by people which do not fit that profile.

-
Insults or threats
-
Abusive language
Terms like moron, asshole, slut or wisenheimer if they are used to debase someone and are meant seriously (not just in good fun between friends). -
Denouncing statements
If the ethnic or social worth of someone is denounced or there is an attempt to humiliate someone with a statement (examples: "You need a shrink", "You must be out of your mind", "I pity you", "Just be quiet", "X is stupid/fat/worthless"). -
Defamation
If factual claims are made or spread which can denounce someone's public image and cannot proven to be true (e.g. allegations of criminal offenses - like fraud or sexual offenses - or physical or mental deficits; plain supposition usually does not count, factual claims have to be made). -
Possible victims of insults
Living or dead people, juristic persons (companys, unions, associations) and other restricted and distinguishable groups of people. -
Intimidation
If a specific person is threatened with violence, or if a threat is made to wreck someone or that the person should watch their back etc. -
Exceptions
Threating someone with legal measures does not count as a "threat", nor would threating a user with personal consequences (e.g. ending a friendship or breaking of any contact, losing respect etc.).

-
User is a fake
-
Photos and/or details in the profile suggest the identity of the user is imitated or the identity of someone else was stolen/forged. We see honesty as an important prerequisite for communication between people and therefore demand a verification if we suspect the identity was forged, so we can confirm the identity.
-
-
Age of the user is incorrect
-
The age of the user is either clearly wrong/implausible, or there are credible leads that the stated date of birth is not correct. We see honesty as an important prerequisite for communication between people and therefore demand a verification if we suspect the date of birth to be incorrect, so we can confirm the identity and age.
-
-
Absurd profile details
-
Details in the profile are clearly absurd, not meant seriously or not credible. We usually welcome humor and a dash of nonsense yet still have to insist on not making fun of the profile details too much.
-
-
User already has another profile
-
Multiple profiles created
We only allow one profile per person - multiple profiles can be confusing for other users and make abuse easier/more likely, which we try to avoid. -
New profile after deletion
If a profile was put offline because of a rule violation no new profile may be created until the incident is fully resolved with us. New profiles of the same user will otherwise be deleted immediately.

Advertising or spam
-
Luring attempts
Requests to write to an e-mail address, to visit a website or to call someone without you knowing the user. Also hints about money prizes, testaments or other attempts to make contact which seem unpersonal and out of place are often attempts to lure users somewhere. -
Advertising
If a user sends you information about products, events, polls, websites etc. with the request that you have a look at it, vote on it, take part in a survey or attend an event without you knowing the user and without you having requested such information.
-
-
Political extremism
-
Propagating damage or harm
The user calls on others to harm people, organisations or a country, e.g. through violent acts, vandalism or harassment. -
Legitimization of violence
The user expresses directly or indirectly that certain people or groups deserve violence, e.g. criminal offenses against people or groups are deemed as just. -
Rassism and other discrimination
If the worth of complete races, peoples or other groups are judged to be inferior, or they are judged in another disparaging way (e.g. "All Jews are greedy." or "Gays deserve to die.") - personal experiences do not count (e.g. "Every Swiss I know is greedy."). -
Negation/belittlement of (war) crimes
The post disputes proven/generally recognized (war) crimes, e.g. the prosection and genocide of Jews in the second world war. -
Right- or left-wing extremism
Using pictures or texts which are (politically) extremely right or left and explicitely or just symbolically stand for hatred, violence or discrimination/racism.

-
Inappropriate content for minors
-
Profile contents
The contents in a profile must be appropriate for minors, which means e.g. detailed depictions of sexual experiences or too precise descriptions of sexual preferences are not allowed. Also contents which are too vulgar or offensive are not allowed. -
Links
The contents of the links in a profile (on the respective external websites) also must be appropriate for minors. -
Possible alternatives
Purplemoon is accessible for people below 18 years of age and all public contents shall therefore be appropriate for all age groups. It is still possible to discuss adult topics in a direct conversation with a user if both users are interested, additionally the profile offers the possibility to publish contents which are only visible to friends.

Copyright infringement
-
Quotes
It is permitted to quote small parts of copyrighted (text) material if the exact source is clearly stated (author and place/position where it was found). Yet to take quotes out of context, to falsify them or to omit the source is prohibited. -
Other copies
Copying material without it falling under the heading of "Quotes" (e.g. because the complete text is used instead of only a small portion, or because the quote was changed or translated) is not allowed without the explicit consent of the author. -
Pictures
Copyrighted pictures may not be copied and used without the explicit consent of the creator.
-
-
Constant violations of the rules
-
Repeated rule violations
A user violates our code of conduct time and time again, e.g. by uploading the same picture again which was deleted previously, or other criticized behavior is repeated. -
No reply
If a user is prompted to contact us after a rule violation but does not react/reply. -
Possible solutions
It is important that our rules are not attempted to be circumvented all the time, and we would like an explicit confirmation by the user that there will not be a constant repetition. A constructive dialogue is very important to us.
